Knee Pain Treatment
in Chicago's West Loop

Pain going down stairs. A grinding sensation when you squat. Knee that flares up every time you run and takes days to settle. We help active Chicago professionals and athletes find what's actually driving their knee pain — often not the knee itself — and fix it at the source.

or call 312-285-2116

Why Knee Pain Is Rarely Just a Knee Problem

The knee is a hinge joint caught between two highly mobile joints — the hip above and the ankle below. When either of those isn't moving well, the knee compensates and absorbs forces it was never designed to handle. Over time that excess load irritates the tendons, compresses the joint surfaces, and inflames the bursa.

This is why treating only the knee rarely produces lasting results. Weak glutes allow the femur to rotate inward and collapse the knee with every step. Tight hip flexors alter pelvic tilt and change how the knee tracks. Poor ankle dorsiflexion forces the knee to drive forward excessively under load. We evaluate the entire chain — and treat wherever the breakdown actually is.

💡 The Hip–Knee Connection Most People Miss

The majority of runner's knee, IT band syndrome, and patellofemoral pain cases we see in Chicago are primarily driven by weak hip abductors and glute med — not the knee itself.

When the hip can't control femoral rotation, the kneecap tracks laterally, the IT band gets loaded with every stride, and the joint surfaces grind. Strengthening the hip resolves the knee — but only if the hip is actually the problem. We confirm which is driving yours before we start.

Common Causes & Conditions We Treat

What's Causing It

  • Weak glutes & hip abductors allowing femoral collapse at the knee

  • Tight IT band & TFL creating lateral knee compression

  • Poor ankle dorsiflexion forcing excessive knee forward drive

  • Quad dominance overloading the patellofemoral joint

  • Patellar tracking dysfunction — kneecap not sitting in its groove

  • Repetitive running, jumping, or squatting without adequate recovery

  • Old knee sprain or meniscus injury with unresolved compensation

Conditions We Help With

  • Runner's knee (patellofemoral pain) — front-of-knee ache with running or stairs

  • IT band syndrome — lateral knee pain with repetitive movement

  • Jumper's knee (patellar tendonitis) — pain at the base of the kneecap

  • Pes anserine bursitis — inner knee pain with activity

  • Knee pain with squatting, lunging, or weightlifting

  • Post-surgical stiffness & limited range of motion

  • Chronic knee aching related to hip or ankle dysfunction

How We Treat Knee Pain in Chicago

We assess knee mechanics, hip strength and mobility, ankle dorsiflexion, and movement patterns under load before building your plan — because runner's knee driven by weak glutes requires completely different treatment than IT band syndrome or patellar tendonitis. Getting the diagnosis right first is everything. Your care may include:

Chiropractic Adjustments

Restore proper motion to restricted joints in the knee, hip, lumbar spine, and ankle — reducing nerve irritation and improving how the entire lower extremity moves and loads.

Active Release Technique (ART)

Breaks up adhesions and scar tissue in the IT band, quad, TFL, patellar tendon, and hamstring — releasing the restrictions that alter knee tracking and drive overuse injury.

Corrective Exercise & Rehab

Targeted exercises that strengthen the glutes, hip abductors, and VMO — the muscles that control femoral rotation and protect the knee under load during training and daily movement.

IASTM, Cupping & Soft Tissue Therapy

Instrument-assisted scraping and therapeutic cupping to reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and accelerate tissue healing around the knee and surrounding musculature.

We Find Where the Problem Actually Is

Most knee pain is driven from the hip or ankle, not the knee itself. We assess the full lower extremity chain so we're treating the right structure — not just where it hurts.
